REIJMYRE GLASBRUK AB 200 YEARS
Reijmyre, one of the oldest glass works in Sweden, is curiously enough, not situated in the glass district but is to be found only 200 kilometres south of Stockholm. In the small village of Reijmyre, on the outskirts of one of the largest forests in Sweden, Reijmyre Glasbruk was founded in 1810. Founders were the Royal Game Keeper Johan Jakob Graver and Count Mattias von Ungern Sternberg.
During the first years the production was concentrated on bottles and window glass but already in 1816 Reijmyre produced wine glasses for the Royal Court in Stockholm.
By the end of the century Reijmyre was one of the most famous glass works in Sweden. At this time Reijmyre had joined forces with some other important glass works, among them, Kosta. Together they set up office not only in the biggest cities in Sweden but also in Copenhagen, London, Hamburg and Moscow.
In 1993, realising the fantastic potential of the brand Reijmyre, the glass work was taken over by Kathrina and Benny Fihn, both with long and successful backgrounds in the Swedish glass industry. With the help of some very experienced designers and an outstanding team of glass blowers and other glass craftsmen they have in only two years time put Reijmyre on the map.
Reijmyre Glasbruk are currently working with two collections of exclusive hand blown glass:
REIJMYRE TRADITION has its roots in the drinking glasses produced for the Swedish Court and nobility already at the beginning of the 19th Century. There are both authentic historical glasses as well as glasses carefully modified to better suit the needs and
preferences of todays customers. In this collection you will also find glass being exclusively produced for A.O. the Swedish National Museum of Art, the Royal Swedish Castle Boutiques and Hugh Johnson Inc, the wine experts.
REIJMYRE CONTEMPORARY collection (which in 1994 received an award for Outstanding Swedish Design) you will find recently designed products. The basis of this collection is the Swedish design tradition of emphasising simplicity, functionality and form. Together with some of the most renowned Swedish designers, Reijmyre are developing a line of products that, although exclusive in quality and form, are designed for everyday use, they are happy if these products become collectables but would prefer them to be used and not hidden in a cupboard.
